Sano and Thea Halo in 1989

This website and its pages are under construction, but here are a few of the things we can share!

The Sano Themia Halo Pontian Heritage Foundation was conceived and organized by Thea Halo. The name of the foundation is in honor of Sano Themia Halo, a Pontic Greek, whose extraordinary dedication to the memory of her family and people enabled her daughter, Thea, to write the inspiring story of her mother's life in a memoir entitled Not Even My Name. In doing so, the story of the Pontic Greeks, Assyrians and Armenians are combined in one book for the first time, and the tragic fate of the Pontic Greeks, Assyrians was made known for the first time in the United States.

To the Pontic Greek communities around the world, Sano Themia Halo has come to be known affectionately as the Yia Yia (grandmother) of all Pontians. The swell of support and gratitude from Pontic Greek and Assyrian communities in the US and abroad, inspired Thea Halo to form the Sano Themia Halo Pontian Heritage Foundationas a means of continuing the work of educating the world on the history and tragic fate of these early Christians of Asia Minor (Turkey), to help people connect with their own histories, find loved ones through a database, and to help young people pursue a university education.

As the name of the foundation is very long. for banking, internet accessability, and other conveniences, the Sano Themia Halo Pontian Heritage Foundation, is also known as the Halo Heritage Foundation. The online web address is: www.haloheritagefoundation.org
